The About Page
What is Just-A-Guy Guessin’?
Just-A-Guy Guessin’ (JAGG for short if you like acronyms for whatever reason) is an independently run Geoguessr fan-made blog. It is primarily devoted to imparting my personal— and often satirical— insights on the aforementioned web-based geography game as well as touching on some of the various niche topics surrounding it.
Who Am I?

I’m not usually one for introductions— but here goes.
I’m Brandon (otherwise known as BCB), the guy behind Just-A-Guy Guessin’. I’m a 29 year-old goober from Rhode Island who enjoys various hobbies such as gaming, digital art, and graphic design.
I’m self-diagnosed as ADHD and autistic— which basically means I’m a little slow to get to the refrigerator in the morning (but I’m always grateful to have gotten there in the end!)
While this is my first proper foray into blogging, Geoguessr has played a prominent role in my life for the better part of the past six years and counting. I’ve met and befriended so many wonderful people playing the game over that span— including my current girlfriend of two years!
Now as a seasoned veteran of the game with hours upon hours of clicking maps under my belt, I finally have a proper outlet to share all of the random nonsense that’s accumulated in my brain with you— the audience.
Some rapid-fire Bonus Facts About me:

- My favorite color is green (shocker, I know!)
- My music genres of choice are EDM and Alternative Rock
- I’m a sucker for spicy foods (wait, does that make me a masochist?)
- Besides Geoguessr, you’ll most likely catch me playing one of either Rocket League or Grand Theft Auto Online in my spare time
- I’m a die-hard New England Patriots fan (Tom Brady is our football lord and savior and anyone who disagrees gets smitten!)
- Yes, my natural hair is red; deal with it 🙂
- I wrote this while sitting on the floor

Q & A
My affinity for Geoguessr primarily stems from a keen interest in both gaming and geography growing up.
I’ve always been infatuated by the simplicity and charm of browser games— after all, many of them were free and easily accessible to the average user back in the earlier days of the Internet.
As it pertains to geography, well, I’ve traditionally thought of myself as more of a visual learner— memorizing shapes and places on a map just always felt natural to me.
When Google Street View first came out, I was incredibly mesmerized by the idea of driving around my home town from the comfort of my own home— living vicariously through the Google Car and exploring areas that I was never able to visit in real life.
I caught the first Geoguessr hype wave when the game was initially released in 2013; back then I merely dabbled with the game on occasion. I did, however, get a kick out of watching newcomers (think popular YouTubers and variety streamers) haphazardly try to figure out where they were— in comedic fashion, of course.
It wasn’t until the summer of 2021 when I began playing the game more regularly— thanks in part to the uprising of small streamers and professional players revitalizing the game.
Ever since then I’ve held a firm footing within the community— and well, the rest is history.
At a glance, I would estimate my Geoguessr skill level to fall somewhere between average and slightly above average.
I’m by no means a professional— my duels elo fluctuates aimlessly between 1100 and 1250 on the regular as of this writing— but I would say that I’m knowledgeable *enough* at the game to where I’m able to identify the correct country roughly over 75% of the time*.
I can identify most basic metas with ease— i.e. the Ghana tape, the Kenya snorkel, the Montenegro & Albanian rifts— given that I’m not catastrophically blinding them in the middle of a round, of course.
I can’t quite tell you what Gen 4 + 2020 copyright + gravel road in a temperate spring European field adds up to—
But I can at least narrow down Czechia based on:
- Green hilly landscape (We ain’t in the sands of Oman that’s for damn sure!)
- Orange equals sign bollards (*Always* Czechia/Slovakia)
- Black caps on the signposts (Oh yeah, it’s Czechia— suck it, Slovakia!)
(Whew. I really need to touch some grass.)
All in all though, I’m always striving to improve— even if the progress feels agonizingly slow at times. In the meantime, maybe we can both have a laugh at my shortcomings together.
*75% is a general assumption, actual results may vary. This number is loosely based on my cumulative performance among all three core modes (Move, No Move, NMPZ) combined.
I play all modes, though I’d argue that I generally favor Moving and No Move over NMPZ (No Move Pan or Zoom) a fair amount of the time.
I’ve historically performed better in the former two modes— potentially attributed by the fact that I’m a downright metaslave by heart (for better or for worse!). The latter is still quite enjoyable as well, particularly when I’m squaring up with friends in a party or partaking in the occasional tournament for fun.
As far as maps go, my favorite types to play are US-oriented maps and general world maps. Taking other map parameters into account (i.e. urban vs rural, skewed vs regular), I don’t really harbor any particular preference.
I wanted to build a silly space where not only could I share my Geoguessr experiences with the world, but also shed light on what makes the game so immersive and interesting beyond just the gameplay itself.
I figure, what better way to pull back the curtain and explore some of the Geoguessr world’s inner workings than to use myself as the example?
**Story time!**
I previously enjoyed a short stint on Twitch streaming the game in 2024— that was fun for a bit, but I elected to step back for a while to regroup and focus on my mental health.
During that time, I had observed my girlfriend blogging and thought: “Hey, wait a minute… what if I launched a Geoguessr blog?”
For years I’ve toyed with the idea of building my own website. Blogging seemed like a fun new hobby to take a stab at; knowing that it would improve my resume and overall wellbeing, I decided to pounce on the opportunity.
So I ran the idea by her and several other of my Geo friends— they helped encourage me to push forward with it, so here we are.
Well— yes and no.
I follow a more content-based approach in my writing on this site, though educational themes will still be present— primarily in the form of whatever random metas and tips I happen to be regurgitating for contextual purposes.
If you wish to learn more beyond my narrow scope of Geoguessr knowledge, I highly recommend checking out Plonk It. I’m not affiliated with them in any official capacity; but I can attest that if you’re looking for a well-organized comprehensive guide that offers professionally vetted tips and tricks for every officially covered country featured in the game— then Plonk It is the best place to start.
Besides taking in quite a bit from the aforementioned website Plonk It, I’ve also absorbed geographical information over the years through a variety of other avenues, including but not limited to:
- Various Geoguessr streamers on Twitch
- zi8gzag on YouTube
- Public Geoguessr discord servers (i.e. the USA Geoguessr Community and Plonk It’s own discord server)
- Friends in the community
- Myself— through hours of playing the game and exploration
No, probably not.
I don’t intend to discourage readers who do aspire to become a professional Geoguessr player one day— if you really want to, then absolutely go for it— but yeah, at this time I don’t think the pro life is for me.
It’s not that I’m allergic to unearthing and applying new information to improve further at the game— I just think that with the rapidly expanding mountains of Geoguessr documentation out there already, I don’t have the time, patience, or capacity to keep up with it all.
That’s why for now, I think being a little less than extraordinary at the game is more than good enough for me. Of course I’ll still be learning things— it’ll just be more at my own pace.
Where else can you find me?
